Arrow of Light

Yesterday, Jordan earned his Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting. He was presented with a cool arrow that he can hang on his wall. He also earned his Webelos award along with many other pins and belt loops. He is now officially a Boy Scout.

Richard put together a program with all the scouts (and some of their sisters). Jordan, and the other boy who was also receiving his arrow of light, then crossed over a bridge to signify their movement into the scouting program. (I was invloved in the program so I couldn't get any pictures of the crossover.)

If the shirt looks huge it is because it is Uncle Reuben's old shirt. It even still has the Utah patch on it. His scout leader wanted to trade him shirts because the shirt he had bought himself was a little small but Jordan couldn't part with it.

Bobcat

It was a big awards night for the Cub Scouts in Kihei. Many of the boys got a lot of awards. Brendan earned his first award, the Bobcat. Richard is the Cub Master so he handed him the award then Brendan got to pin the parents pin on me. Each boy got to pick his applause so Brendan picked the round of applause where everyone stands up and claps as they are turning in a circle.

You want me to do what?

Today I was sustained as Relief Society President. It has come as such a big shock. I have had many sleepless nights about what is to come. This is all very new to me as I haven't even been in the Relief Society Presidency before. As I walked into church today, one of my 8 year old students gave me a note telling me how much she liked having me as her teacher. It was very cute and I will truly miss teaching my class. As much as I like to stay in the background, now I feel everyone will be looking at me. Boy will I have to get out of my comfort zone. I have a lot to learn but I do look forward to meeting the sisters in my ward.

Jordan turns 11

He's getting into the teenage years and I'm starting to feel old. He just reached 5' and still growing.

On Saturday Jordan had a birthday party with his friends at the Fun Factory (an arcade). He and Brendan both earned 600 tickets and took forever trying to figure out what to get with their tickets. Really it is all just junk but they feel like they just hit the jackpot. After the Fun Factory we headed back to our house for pizza, game cube, and water balloons. The water balloons turned out to be a free for all with the hose. Most everyone was soaked and as parents came Dylan got a hold of the hose and decided to spray one of the parents as well.

Since today is actually his birthday, I brought carrot cake (an authorized school treat) to his school. For dinner I made his favorite food, Shoyu Chicken. He got to choose his birthday "cake" and wanted pumpkin pie, his favorite.

Callings

It's not whether you are ready when you are called, it is that you get ready.

Typical Dylan

I think it has just become a habit, but Dylan is always looking for food to eat. He doesn't always eat everything he gets but it seems like he is always asking for something. He walks into school telling his teacher he is hungry. Right when he gets to Grandma and Grandpa James house he asks for a snack. He gets buckled in the car and he's ready eat. Labor Day was no exception. With tables of food he had plenty to choose from. Here he is eating his fourth (or fifth) watermelon. (Who knows how much he really ended up eating). He actually had a plate full of food, that he picked himself, but had left it for other food items that looked better to him at the moment. Why he decided to start eating watermelon with a fork I will never know except that it was on the table so he grabbed it.
